On the evening of May 19, 2017 patrons were treated to a spectacle when the Georgetown Marriott Ball Room came alive as ten beauties competed for the Miss India Guyana 2017 title.
Scores turned out filling the Ball Room to witness an evening mixed with Caribbean and Indian culture. The ten delegates showcased their talent pieces and entertainment also featured various local talent and Miss India World Wide 2016 Karina Kohli.
Director of the pageant Uma Bux indicated that this year had thirty applicants which was then shortlisted to fifteen and subsequently ten finalist.
The pageant was well put together with the help of artistic director Derek Moore who trained the delegates for over two months. However, the host and hostess could’ve been a bit more professional in their presentations.
It all came down to the judges’ decision to select the top five who were: Delegate #1 Cynthia Dookie, Delegate #2 Sangeeta Bahadur, Delegate # 7 Samantha Chunilall, Delegate # 9 Sarah Rajkaran and Delegate #10 Ashmini Ramnauth. All scores were then reset to zero as the five finalist had their intelligence challenged with the question “If you will be winning the crown tonight, what will be the very first thing that you will do?”
Miss Bahadur emerged as the winner as Ashmini Ramnauth placed second as the first princess and Cynthia Dookie placed third as the second princess.
